History of Chantry Grasshoppers
Many thanks to our friend David Routh who is President with the Ipswich & Suffolk Youth Football League and to Allan Girot secretary of the same league who have confirmed that Chantry Grasshoppers FC joined the league in 1982 in readiness for the 1982/83 Season.
In 1984 Chantry Grasshoppers FC presented the Grasshoppers Cup to the league and this was used by them for several years.
The club was elected to the League at an AGM held on the 23rd June 1982 in the St Pancras Church Hall, Cox Lane, Ipswich - having been proposed by St Johns and seconded by Ipswich Exiles (both of which are current members). The club in that first season had an U12 team which was 1 of 8 teams in the division - the others being Woodbridge Youths, Whitton United, East Bergholt, St Johns, Grundisburgh, Ipswich Exiles and Bramford United.
In that first season, the U12 teams played a KO Cup (Chantry being drawn at home to Bramford Utd in round 1) and a league-cup with Chantry sharing a group with East Bergholt, Whitton United and Woodbridge Youths.
Chantry Grasshoppers FC secured FA Charter Standard on the 3rd October 2011.
Chantry Grasshoppers Youth FC will be celebrating their clubs 30th Birthday in the year 2012. And would like to hear from as many former Officials, Players, Managers and supporters weho might have some old memorabillia that we can copy and return contact Nick Ward on froggernelaine@aol.com for further information.
