Chantry Grasshoppers FC were playing their final game of the season with this test against newly promoted Division 2 team Whitton United
Hoppers began the game in lovely conditions on a pitch that was covered in Buttercups but a lovely surface to play on the early stages were end to end with both teams getting the ball
A great Finley ball to Gavin saw his shot go just wide and soon after a ball over the top found Gavin whose shot went just wide. In the 23rd minute of the half Hoppers opened the scoring with a great ball played forward and Gavin Clyne went through and slotted the ball home 1-0 Hoppers. Just a Minute later Hoppers increased their lead when Euan McGinley played in Gavin Glyne who again scored a great goal 2-0 Hoppers,. Hoppers continued to press and the Hoppers defence were all playing extremely well and stopping threat after threat controlled by Captain Marcus and a great ball found Harry Stephenson but the ball ran away from him to the safe hands of the Whitton Goalkeeper. Another Euan chance found a great run into space and his shot went just wide. With time running out a Whitton chance luckily went just wide Half Time 2-0 Hoppers
The second half started after several Hoppers changes to give all a good chance in the game. Early Whitton pressure resulted in Daniel Stollery being called into action. A 5th minute Whitton corner found an unmarked player who reduced the scoreline and just a minute later they equalised with another goal score 2-2. After being pegged back hoppers continued to press and soon restored the lead when a fantastic ball played over a defender by Ben Gleed was then riffled into the back of the net by the same player for a 3-2 lead. Hoppers continued to press and Carnel had his own strike go just wide before Whitton United again equalised. However with time running out it was Daniel Stollery who caught the headlines with a fantastic double save to deny Whitton the victory and with the game ending full time 3-3 a fantastic game and a fair result. Well done to the referee to our opponents Whitton United and to the players and supporters of both teams.
